Eat Clean!

Walking out of the restaurant I felt good, satiated and clean. Healthy food generally is like that. It's "clean". It isn't about being vegetarian or not, or making sure there is the perfect fat gram count. It is about living in a way where food is delicious fuel to illuminate your cells with light, rather than knock them out or cover them up with gooey sludge.

Our current culture is all for sludge and just take a pill to fix the problems. We are pushed and pulled into believing that "You only live once" is a good excuse for daily doses of coffee, sugar, refined everything and culturally there is an agreement that loading up on rich offerings, that were once reserved for special occasions is our right. That desserts, treats and over indulging is fun.

Than there is the misconceptions of what is healthy! Smoothies are usually laden with sugar even if it is all fruit. Consuming 5 fruits in a few gulps can sometimes be just as much sugar in your blood stream as a cookie and that is before adding any agave, honey or brown rice syrup to the mix. The alkalizing green powders cannot balance all the sugar but since it does give you a light kind of immediate boost, it seems like a good thing to do. Maybe if you are a stocky athlete who also eats a fair amount of meat it will be some kind of balancing. For most people it slowly is weakening but it tastes so good and how can fruit be bad right? Too much too quickly of anything is probably not the best idea.

You need not like salad to eat well and some of those veggies you thought were horrible might be just your thing when prepared properly. I personally am not a fan of certain bitter greens like water cress raw but blanched I love them! The bitterness is taken away and I get the benefits of eating them like their re-hydrating ability.

Eating clean means more energy for you, less stress, less moods and ailments fall away! Try a six week experiment and see how it feels for you.

Inflamation Be Gone!

If we cannot smell then food doesn't taste so good.
If food doesn't taste so good we look to find things that excite us more like strong flavors.
Often strong flavors and rich foods create inflammation.
Inflammation can block nasal passages or create mucus that can lead to not being able to smell so well.

America has an inflammation problem!
Swollen bodies, congestion, joint aches, back aches, neck aches, pain, blockages, skin rashes, hair falling out, and so much more. STOP! You can reverse your conditions and start feeling young, flexible and fresh right now.

Even when you know that eating millet might be better than that toast, if you are happy with bad habits it can be difficult to change. If you are committed to something other than your health and well being, than you might be making excuses for your choices that keep you less than fully happy and free. Wrap your brain around this. What do you want. Make a list. Now put it in order so what you want most is on the top of the list. What are you currently doing that is not working for you to have what you want? What are you willing to do differently and keep doing it consistently? How might you need to shift your thinking to keep being consistent with what you do? (write these things out right now...)

For example if you want to clean up your act and you are used to drinking a glass of red wine every night, that might be something you let go of for a time. Or only drink on Fridays and Wednesdays just as a suggestion. If you start defending your habit, you will find studies giving you all of the benefits of red wine drinking but that still won't change the reality that it is contributing to the acidity in your system and helping your symptoms grow larger rather than diminish. If instead of defending, you decide to cut down or stop this habit to see what happens no matter what - then it will be a challenge as you acquire a new habit of drinking water or tea instead. You can enjoy the challenge, hate the challenge, ignore the challenge, all choices are up to you. The more you commit to a life that gives you more, the more benefits you will see. You will start smelling better, tasting better and having more sensory experiences. It takes consistent commitment. Many people like to have a coach or someone they feel they want to keep their word to. If you pay your coach, you might not want the investment to be wasted so it will keep you in the groove until your new habits are in place. Go on and get more freedom! You'll be glad you did.

Homemade Sorbet is easy...

Make your own healthy sorbet. Use your favorite fruits and springboard off of this recipe:

Sugar Free Raspberry Sorbet

2 packages organic frozen raspberries

1 C. plain amasake

1 C. brown rice syrup

2 T. agar flakes

1T. Vanilla

Orange zest (optional)

Defrost the berries by placing the bags in the refrigerator over night or leaving on the counter for a couple of hours. Juice the raspberries to remove the seeds. In a saucepan heat the amasake with the agar until the agar is dissolved. (3-5minutes) Place all ingredients in a blender and blend. Transfer to a freezer proof container and freeze overnight. Process in a food processor until smooth and then re-freeze for 6-8hrs before serving.

Chocolate Sauce

1 Cup maple syrup

1 Cup Cocoa powder

1/8 tsp. Sea salt

1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

Boiling water

Place the syrup, cocoa powder, salt and vanilla extract in a food processor or blender and blend. Add boiling water (about 1/4 to 1/2 Cup.) to thin. You will want the sauce to be somewhat thin as it thickens up when it is cold. You might like to add a hint of cinnamon or even cayenne pepper to your sauce.

Morning Musings

I have a friend who is vegan. She is loudly vegan and feels if people stopped eating animals then the animals would be treated better and life would be better for everyone. I am not vegan. I was vegan for 10 years because it was my first introduction to the power of food. Switching to a vegan diet after years of Midwestern milk and meat eating was a huge shift for my body. My lifelong struggle with eczema disappeared instantly. It was profound and huge and I was scared to ever eat animal products. As the years rolled on and I learned more I found that I needed meat to be healthy. Balance doesn't happen overnight. The build up of so much meat and milk had created far too much acidity along with everything else I ate. The cleaning out did some good but was not a full cure all until I learned how to create balance by knowing how each individual food was effecting the body. It's quite simple but overlooked greatly.

Just as we overlook getting back to being responsible to ourselves, our community and the planet in order to get ahead and make more money. I watch as a nineteen year old girl I met spends her free time playing games online where she and her mates shoot people up. Our culture has blown up looking at horrors in the world and created an environment where what is taught is not bathed in quality, kindness and reverence but quite the opposite.

I remember being taught in school about the Native American Indians that lived on the land I had grown up on. They didn't over fish or over kill and they used every part of any Animal they sacrificed. They didn't hurt the Earth that grew their food but tried to give back and keep the circular cycles working in their favor. I was not taught like an Indian child. I feel that in many ways my life would have been better had I learned a greater degree of responsibility and if all of us did. If that were normal. If kindness were more normal would there be more care and less divorce? Would there be more winning products for everyone and less global warming? Would there be more happy shining faces and less sadness, struggle and disease?

What we are taught about food and thoughts starts from the parents but we can relearn at any time. What do you choose? It does start on your plate.

Win at Your Game!

We all have games we play with ourselves. Habits we fight against or give into or laugh at, habits of thought and action. Sometimes, when we least expect it, an old habit resurfaces. One we perhaps thought we had shifted out of, conquered or replaced, can zoom in out of nowhere and take us by surprise. The old you, old pattern, old thinking crashing in just to throw you off balance or for you to decide things do not change. Not really. Or maybe you see it as an opportunity to shed off another layer. Maybe this time is is getting the muck at the bottom that had drifted down and these last bits of things unwanted were now surfacing just to be dealt with and moved on from?

Is your game weight loss or feelings of social difference? Is your game a health issue, relationship issue or problem you have with finances, work or place you live? What is your game and what do you want the game to be?

Let's take the weight loss issue for example. There are those that attempt to lose weight and do for a little bit and then pop right back up to an unwanted weight. It can feel like starting over each time. Then they discover an inner resolve to solve this issue once and for all. They start exercising and making it a habit or create a new habit of what they eat most days and how much. Binging stops. They find they stabilize at a weight they are happy being and stay there. Then something happens in their life and they do not even notice the small extras that start creeping in or maybe an upset triggers a great big binge or several. Has the game changed? Are you back to a place you don't want to be in again? Do things really change?

The answer is all in how you interpret what is going on. That is the game. If you think it and believe it, it will be true for you. So you can not make minor set backs mean anything but a blip in the course of things to come. Let it go and find your resolve to feel the way you want to and take appropriate actions. In our weight loss example you might think something like, "Oh look I'm binging, that has not happened in so long, I must need to take care of myself. I can let this go now..." or what ever sets you back on course.

Making changes is not easy. It takes effort to stay on course. Without constant watch it is easy to drift like a boat left alone at sea. Decide to play a game of your own choosing and direct your course!
